3 Collections from Indonesia Fashion Forward Designer At 16 Matahari Department Store

For the first time, Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW) is collaborating with Matahari Department Store through Indonesia Fashion Forward (IFF), a capacity development program for Indonesian designers. This collaboration provides an opportunity for three IFF designers to showcase their collections at 16 Matahari Department Stores in major Indonesian cities such as Jakarta, Bogor, Semarang, Solo, Surabaya, Banjarmasin, Makassar, Palembang, Jambi and Banda Aceh. Fashion lovers can now  enjoy and purchase collections from Norma Hauri, Restu Anggraini, and Rani Hatta, which were designed exclusively for the collaboration.

“For IFF, this collaboration is a good opportunity for designers to get to know more about the retail industry, and they are also able to develop their business in local markets, and they will broaden their collections' coverage so that they can be enjoyed by more fashion lovers in Indonesia,” said Lenni Tedja, Director of JFW.

Lenni noted that in the long term, through this collaboration,  the collections of these three designers will also be available in other cities, not just the initial as well as in 16 Matahari stores. Moreover, more IFF designers will be involved.

Imelda Like, Head of Marketing Communication & Fashion Director of PT Matahari Department Store Tbk added, “Matahari is very proud to collaborate with the next generation of talented Indonesians. This collaboration concept is aimed at offering high quality products from famous designers in Indonesia with exclusive designs at affordable prices. Matahari is committed to continuing to advance the fashion industry in Indonesia, especially local brands, to give a choice of fashion products for our customers. This collaboration represents Matahari’s commitment to always deliver a more exciting shopping experience and to make its loyal customers “Feel Good”.

IFF, which is a capacity development program for young Indonesian designers and has been going on for six years, has proven successful at accelerating the development of local labels and reaching international markets. Year by year, IFF and JFW have collaborated with various fashion organizations and international cultural institutes such as the British Council, Korean Culture Center (KCC), Japan Fashion Week Organisation, DITP Thailand, Council of Fashion Designers of Korea, Fashion Design Council India (who held Amazon India Fashion Week), Australia-Indonesia Centre, Melbourne Fashion Festival, Isituto Marangoni, London College of Fashion, Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), Guangzhou Fashion Week, University of the Arts London, as well as The Woolmark Company, to give an opportunity for IFF designers to bring, showcase, and market their collections in the countries concerned.

Last year, Norma Hauri – known for her sleek clothes in bold colors, yet always emphasizing courtesy with contemporary design – showcased her collection at Fashion Week Tokyo, Japan. This April, Rani Hatta – who specializes in sporty and masculine designs in monochrome, such as black and grey – also showcased her collection at Fashion Week Tokyo. Meanwhile Restu Anggraini, who besides participating in Fashion Week Tokyo in 2015, also won the Australia-Indonesia Centre Young Indonesia Fashion Designer Awards in Jakarta Fashion Week 2016 and is known for her contemporary and modern yet simple striped designs, showcased her collection at the Melbourne Fashion Festival 2016.
