Visa and Matahari collaborate on FIFA World Cup 2022™ promotion in Indonesia

Jakarta, Indonesia, 7 July 2022 – As the world anticipates one of the biggest global sporting events to start, Visa,
the world leader in digital payments and exclusive payment services partner of FIFA through 2022, has facilitated PT Matahari Department Store Tbk ("Matahari”), to enable Matahari’s consumers the chance to be the lucky Indonesian consumers who will fly to Qatar to witness the beautiful game live.

Speaking on the collaboration, Riko Abdurrahman, President Director of PT Visa Worldwide Indonesia, said,
“We are delighted to be partnering with Matahari, one of the biggest department store chains in the country, to offer this once in a lifetime promotion to watch the FIFA World Cup 2022™ live in Qatar. Shoppers only need to use their Visa credit and debit cards to shop at a Matahari Department Store and come away with the chance to be included in the lucky draw”. Riko added, “This is one of the ways we welcome and fully support the country’s economic recovery by facilitating exciting offers in face-to-face card payments, as well as continued optimism towards borders opening up and travel thriving once again”.

Terry O’ Connor, CEO of Matahari, commented, “Matahari is happy to partner with Visa to make the FIFA World
Cup™ supporters’ dreams come true by launching a lucky draw, where 3 lucky Matahari customers everywhere across Indonesia, will be able to watch the FIFA World Cup 2022™ match live from the modern stadiums in Qatar this year end with flights, luxury accommodation and experiences included. This fantastic promotion is also in conjunction with the Indonesian Independence Day on 17 August 2022, which signifies Matahari’s clear support and enhanced service as the department store of choice for Indonesians, as we look forward to the economy thriving again, especially with the momentum of this mid-year school break and holiday season as part of our campaign, 77 Days Spirit of Indonesia.”

Visa and Matahari’s collaboration runs between 15 June – 31 August 2022, where all transactions using Visa credit or debit cards with a minimum purchase of Rp 500.000 (and every subsequent Rp 500,000) will get 1 lucky draw number printed in the receipt. Matahari Rewards members will be rewarded with an additional 1 lucky draw number, making them the exclusive recipients of 2 chances in the lucky draw from just that one minimal purchase.

More so, payments using Visa contactless cards will get another 1 additional lucky draw number. Contactless
payments have been the norm in worldwide Visa transactions for low-ticket items, where neighbouring countries such as Singapore and Australia show that 90% of Visa transactions there are done through contactless cards. In Indonesia, 3 out of 4 consumers1 are interested to use contactless cards, with supermarket, retail shopping, and travel abroad the top 3 categories where contactless is used.
