Matahari is Improving Ten School Libraries across Indonesia

To improve the lives and prospects of the younger generation, Matahari ("Company"; stock code: "LPPF") is renovating ten school libraries across Indonesia. Through this CSR program worth up to IDR 906 million, Matahari is committed to renovate the elementary school libraries in ten regions where Matahari operates in some big cities including Tangerang, Singkawang, Palu, Kupang, Jakarta, Bogor, Palembang, Semarang, Medan and Malang. Collaborating with BenihBaik.com, the ceremony of the first school library renovation is held at Public Elementary School/ Sekolah Dasar Negeri Kademangan 02, Tangerang, Banten today.

“Matahari believes that education is vital to uplift the lives of communities and alleviate poverty. We are committed to create an ecosystem where Indonesian kids can grow healthily and feel good about their future. We, at Matahari, will live our values and give back to the nation through these children,” said Terry O’Connor, CEO of Matahari.

“Indonesia still has a low reading interest due to the lack of access and unequal access to education facilities.  As we believe the development of human character starts from school, we are happy that Matahari, has the same concern with us, and is supporting the renovation of school library at SDN 02 Kademangan as a great start. Benih Baik is excited to collaborate with Matahari in renovating the other five school libraries in the following months,” said Andy F Noya, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) BenihBaik.com.

"We would like to thank to Matahari and BenihBaik.com for renovating of the school library at SDN 02 Kademangan. With this project, we hope that children's interest in reading books here will increase. Building a school library is a must if there is a desire to improve the quality of students, teachers, schools, and even the quality of the nation because school libraries are windows of world knowledge," said Artiah, Principal of SDN Kademangan 02.

Terry added, “The renovated library is aimed to make the kids enjoy a more colorful atmosphere, have interest in, and love reading. We are excited to improve the literacy of kids at the other school libraries in the next nine region across Indonesia.”

The Company is also collaborating with GNOTA (Gerakan National Orang Tua Asuh) for one city and Wahana Visi Indonesia for three cities, which have proven experiences and expertise in this field, to renovate the other school libraries in 2023. This program reflects the extension of Matahari’s nationwide brand campaign.

Matahari also participates in yearly clothing donation programs held by Lentera Bagi Bangsa (LBB), an organization focusing on fund raising to provide education for kids in need throughout Indonesia.

As the leading children’s wear retailer in Indonesia the next generation will continue to be at the heart of Matahari’s CSR initiatives.
